I have been wrestling with a big decision for some time. I have struggled for years to find the best animals from the best people. This is a task that has become harder as time marches forward. Many of the good breeders have retired or died. There are some who became greedy and others who became sloppy. The remaining folks are great people.
I have been profoundly affected by the presence of a small female beagle named Daisy. Daisy was a couple days away from being killed. She was a stray that no one wanted. I was fortunate enough to get her here at Dog Patch in an attempt to find her a home. We were her last resort. While getting her settled in and ready for a home. I fell for this little dog. My wife did too. We took her home. She had heart worm, tapeworm, and was in heat. I love this dog. She gets along with four cat and three rats. She loves everyone. She loves life. I cant get past the number of dogs that are just like her waiting for a miracle to come along and save them. We have placed 24 similar dogs.
I have been struggling with this decision for years. Today I am announcing that I am committed to ending our puppy sales in favor of shelter and rescue puppies and kittens. In an odd twist, folks that I considered adversaries are pledging to help me with this changeover. While we do not see eye to eye on everything we can agree about enough to help me with this change. I know that some will be disappointed with this decision. I’m sad about it myself. I do know that this is a big change for us. It will take some time for us to get used to this.
A note to my faithful breeders. I am in the process of contacting you all personally. It is very important that everyone know. This is no reflection on any of you. You are great at what you do. You care for your animals like I would. You are wonderful people doing things the right way. I will keep in touch with all of you.
This is a big deal for us. It’s scary and makes me nervous as I do not like disappointing our customers. It is scary to think of the lost income. I believe I can make it up in other ways but it’s still scary. We have shelter animals here now. Watch for more soon. This is a great thing!
We need your support now more than ever!
